Mahu Mates Adventure Walks is an enriching and social experience for your dog.
Physically, your dog will be able to exert their energy in a safe and supervised environment however the physical aspect of this walk is only part of the experience as there will be an abundance of sensory benefits.
Discovering a new environment through scent is an instinctual haven for your dog and is mentally stimulating and therefore tiring in return.
Socialisation
The Adventure walks will match up similar play styles and personalities to encourage your dog to learn healthy social cues and form trusting relationships with their peers.
These interactions will be supervised by an experienced handler with knowledge of both canine body language and structured play.
Some dogs may struggle with canine interactions, socially enriching walks can improve their understanding of the social cues in front of them.
Recognizing these key signals and reacting appropriately can make for an all round more confident socializer who is more likely to handle stressful situations in a healthy way.
Recall
These adventure walks can also be a great way to encourage a solid recall with the help of another dog.
Following a dog with exceptional recall back to a handler and then receiving praise or a food reward can encourage your dog's safe return even around distractions.

Adventure Walk with Mahu Mates is $64.00
Step 1: Sign up
Meet & Match
Complete the intro form and share some details about your dog. We’ll then schedule a time to meet your dog, either at your home, in your garden, or during a walk. This allows us to assess your dog’s social behaviors and play style in a comfortable environment.
Deposit
There is a $12 deposit to be paid for the meet and match that is then removed from the price of an adventure walk with Mahu Mates. It is essential that we meet the dog prior to booking an Adventure walk so we can accurately group your dog with those of a similar nature.
Groups
- All the Mahu Mutts that sign up for an adventure walk will be put into 1 of 3 groups:
- Rough & tumble
- Chase & Fetch
- Sniff & Greet
Step 2: Groups
During your meet and match your dog will be assessed by our dog handler and placed in one of the following categories:
Rough & Tumble
This is a very boisterous style of play that involves a lot of contact such as wrestling, mouthing and rolling around.
This play requires many social cues and short breaks to ensure both dogs are still enjoying the interaction.
This play style is not for every dog as some dogs find it to be too intense.
Chase & Fetch
This one is for the speedy dogs that enjoy chase play. Whether it's chasing or being chased, these dogs find a thrill in fast play with minimal contact.
This group is also for the ball chasers of the Wairarapa as they share the chase drive with the rest of this group.
These dogs require social cues like any other to establish who is comfortable being chased as opposed to chasing or to establish who is getting the ball and who is chasing the dog who wants the ball.
Sniff & Greet
This category is for the introverts of the dog world. These dogs prefer to interact with their environments as opposed to their peers.
These dogs, like all dogs on a Mahu Mates walk are not reactive or aggressive, they simply prefer to engage in the same activities in close proximity.
